TIEMPO DE HÍBRIDOS | HYBRID TIMES

 

The visual artists Marcos Castro and Mauro Giaconi from Mexico City are developed several site-specific installations in the World Art Room exclusively for the Asphalt Festival in Düsseldorf.

Marcos Castro unfolds a kind of stage design on the walls and in the room, inspired by traditional Mexican wall painting. He reflects on Mexican post-revolutionary thought by reinterpreting elements of official historiography, creating hybrid graphic relationships from expanded painting, and borrowing symbols from different cultures - from Mexican tradition to Mexican punk culture.

Mauro Giaconi unfolds an installation based on anecdotes about the Mexican Revolution and the use of illusion as a strategy to alter perceptions of reality in battle. Using wooden pegs, flour, water and heat, he occupies the space as if in a battle formation, provoking a scenario of symbolic and historical intersections presented in a surreal landscape of hybrid relationships between revolutions, anarchy and bread.
